We’re big advocates of blogging to increase your brand reach, but blog idea generation can be difficult, especially when you need to find topics to write about on a weekly or daily basis. That’s why we’ve put together our top 5 tips for blog idea generation that will help keep your creative juices flowing. Let’s dive right in!
1. Take inspiration from your daily life
When going about your day to day tasks in your own work, you may find yourself doing something which may be an interesting topic to blog about. Writing about how you go about certain tasks may even help your audience and provide valuable tips for them.
You could also focus on writing a blog about a certain problem you or one of your colleagues have faced. Your customers may have faced the same issue and are looking for some advice. Doing this will help assert your authority in your industry and your customers and prospective customers will see you as a thought leader.
2. Answer questions you may have had yourself
Another great way to generate blog ideas is to answer questions you may have had yourself. You may have found yourself out on a work trip or in a meeting where you’ve asked a question to a colleague, client or supplier for example. Maybe you’ve been given some information where you’ve needed to do a little bit of research on. These make for great topics for a blog post, as more than likely if you’ve had those questions, your customers may have had them too.
3. Answer common questions from customers
Some people like to use an FAQ section for these, but answering common questions you get from your customers are good opportunities to utilise for blog posts. A blog post with a title like “Ten questions you may have had about our product” or something similar, is a good way to take the most common questions you get and answer them very publicly, on your blog.
You don’t have to answer multiple questions in one blog post either, you could have one blog post that centres around one particular question that might need more context or more elaboration. These kinds of blog posts are a great way to drive more traffic to your website should you get asked these questions on your social media for example.
4. See what your competitors are writing about
A great technique for blog idea generation is to see what your competitors are writing about. Whilst this is a good tactic to give you inspiration, be sure not to copy their content! Take a look and see which of their blogs have performed well for your competitors – could you produce something similar but with a twist? Analysing what content has worked well for your competitors will help you with brainstorming your own blog articles.
5. Keep up-to-date with current events and trends
One of the best ways to generate blog ideas is by keeping up with the latest events and trends in your industry. When you come across a topic you think you could write about, focus on a viewpoint that is relevant to your business and your offering. Set up to receive notifications from certain news sites for example so when you do get an alert, you can compile a list of topics.
