It’s that time again. We’ve been keeping an eye on what’s trending and what’s been blowing up on social media in the last month or so. Enjoy.
Football is back
After an agonisingly long wait, with no major International tournaments – aside from the glorified friendly cup that was the UEFA Nations League finals, football finally returned.
Fantasy football fans around the world went from couch potatoes to OPTA statisticians for a week of careful research into who and what will be a success, before ripping their hair out when Alisson Becker got injured after 39 minutes, losing a certain clean sheet and an unnecessary waste of a free transfer.
Football and social media go hand in hand so, unfortunately for non-fans, most channels were bombarded with highlights, funny moments and banter – something the likes of Paddy Power are the kings of utilising.
Their Twitter channel is a must-follow for sports fans, even if you don’t have any interest in betting.

Chris Eubank Sr
The man, the myth, the legend that is Chris Eubank Sr. has been providing comedy gold for decades, but his appeal has been underrated for long.
After starring on Celebrity Gogglebox, however, Eubank finally started to get the recognition that his quotes deserve.
A highlight of his stint on the show includes a bowl of Smarties and his son, Chris Eubank Jr.
Eubank Sr. offers his son a “sweetie” to which his son sarcastic responds “I’ll take a Smartie”.
“These are SMARTIEEES indeed” Sr. replies before adding “an absolutely stupendous confectionary” – the first time Smarties have ever been called that!
After his appearances on the show, clips of him started to pop up all over social media channels, and an account called ‘Out Of Context Chris Eubank’ was created on Twitter. And to be honest, it’s possibly the funniest page on the whole of Twitter at the moment.

Trump wanted to buy Greenland
Another month, another Trump quote. But in this case it was the response that was the funniest.
Just to get you up to speed if you didn’t follow it, Trump is keen on buying Greenland from the Danish Government. According to The Wall Street Journal he was advised to look into buying the land as “Denmark faced financial trouble from supporting the territory” and has raised the question during meetings and dinners with associates.
After it was published, he even tweeted the following.
I promise not to do this to Greenland! pic.twitter.com/03DdyVU6HA

The Danish responded in brilliant fashion. “As we have stated, Greenland is not for sale,” a spokesperson for the Danish government said on Friday. “We have noted, however, that during the Trump regime pretty much everything in the United States, including its government, has most definitely been for sale.”
“Denmark would be interested in purchasing the United States in its entirety, with the exception of its government,” the spokesperson added.
Before finishing off with: “We believe that, by giving the U.S. an educational system and national health care, it could be transformed from a vast landmass into a great nation”.
Well played Denmark, well played.
Festival season
It’s festival season, which means people have an excuse to dress as clowns without being embarrassed about it. This obviously is a dream for instagram addicts as they can post pictures of themselves in horrendous bucket hats, crazy tops and fishnet stockings that normally would only be used in the bedroom.
During the Summer Bank Holiday, the annual Notting Hill Carnival took place in the capital, and as per usual the street festival provided endless social media posts.
One of the things that usually gets the big hits is police officers dancing with the public, but there was a limited amount of that this year due to the heat – as officers were banned from dancing!
