That’s it! The official Great British Bake Off came to an end last week, and now some of us at Fifteen are going into mourning. We just hope that Channel 4, who have bought GBBO from BBC, can keep the Bake Off alive!
If you haven’t been following us on social media, or here on our blog, you may not have known that we have been hosting our own Great Fifteen Bake Off, where we have been treated to 2 or even 3 bakes a week in the office.
Each bake has been scored out of 10 for three categories: taste, effort and presentation. These individual scores have then been brought together and divided by how many ‘judges’ were present to sample the bake that day.
From cakes, to cupcakes, to cookies and even meringues, we’ve sampled a good selection of bakes in this years competition. As we’ve all got a bit of a sweet tooth, we didn’t have any savoury bakes competing this year.
There’s been a few dramas including late night trips to pick up more ingredients, undercooked cakes and suspected tactical voting, but we’ve really seen a step up in the presentation department with sparklers, cake stands and cupcake boxes making an appearance.
After 10 weeks, 21 bakes and 1000’s of calories in our office, we have our final leaderboard.
So, here are the final results!
Congratulations to Lucy, who has managed to keep hold of her crown from 2015, by wowing us with her Neapolitan cake. Not only did it look amazing from the outside, but the layers of cake inside were also flavoured with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
It’s fair to say, we are all now totally baked out! Roll on next years competition!
